Sheila Viesca, TalkShop CEO recommends, “Customization is key to getting noticed by recruiters. Your letter will have to stand out from several others to merit an interview. Thus, it is worth your time to craft a compelling cover letter. She offers the following tips:

1. Review the want ad for qualifications and requirements.

2. Include a chart in your letter citing the requirements, and your qualifications/accomplishments beside these.

3. Use keywords that persuade :

a. Examples of skill keywords – developed, wrote, analyzed, trained, created.
b. Examples of results-oriented keywords – produced, increased, save, led, built.
c. Examples of recognition-oriented keywords – cited, awarded, credited, lauded.

4. Make your letter sound convincing. A boring letter will get you nowhere.

5. Mention what makes the job interesting to you to project yourself as pro-active and driven.
